The Ohio County Public Library
I recently visited the Ohio County Public Library in Wheeling, West Virginia. It originally opened as the Wheeling Public Library in 1882. It wasn’t until 1933 that the name changed to the Ohio County Public Library name that it is known as today. I personally like the the Wheeling Public Library name better because the main library is located in Wheeling after all. It’s kind of funny how although it’s called the Ohio County Public Library, it’s actually located in West Virginia. It is understandable though, as it is right on the border of St. Clairsville Ohio. I was initially drawn to the immediate warmth and coziness when I walked in.All of the books and movies are located on the first floor, with study rooms and meeting spaces are located on the second floor. It just seemed like a really nice small town library with friendly staff and locals. I was able to add to my library card collection an invalid Ohio County Public Library card thanks to the friendly lady who gave me one at the circulation desk. In return of this nice gesture and just wanting to remember the library in a city filled with so many wild and wonderful childhood/adult memories, I bought a tote bag and pencil pouch that had the library and the logo of the Wheeling Suspension bridge on it. I think the real gem of this library, though, is the special West Virginia history collection located behind the brick window panels and the little museum of Wheeling history exhibit which showcases rare and unique artifacts that preserve and highlight the history of Wheeling, West Virginia.
