July 2024 Books
Today I finished my 60th book of 2024 and also my favorite July book, What’s Your Era? by Sophie May-Williams. This is a must read for every Swiftie out there and really anyone who wants to learn more about the distinct characteristics of her first ten eras. Every era is unique filled with unique facts, statistics, songs, lyrics, and outfits that make that specific era. No two eras are the same, but many come close like Taylor’s sister albums folklore and evermore. In addition to learning about how each era stands out musically, the author takes us through Taylor’s lens as we learn what Taylor was going through during that specific era in her life. Repuatation, for example is one of Taylor’s darkest albums because she was going through a dark period in her life where people in the media weren’t saying kind things to her and frankly trying to ruin her reputation. Lover, on the other hand is the complete opposite filled with butterflies, pastel colors and songs filled with so much sunshine and hope.
My favorite era that I read about in this book was about 1989 which officially solidified me as a Swiftie. I have been keeping up with Taylor’s music ever since and with each new album she releases, 1989 still remains my favorite album by her. The book goes in depth to let the reader know what fashions and styles solidify each era. Outfits you would see worn in the seventies, for example fit the Midnights era. After the reader is finished brushing up their knowledge on Taylor’s eras, they can then take a quiz at the end to see what era they fit best in. The only era that was not included in this book was The Tortured Poets Department as that album had not yet been released upon publishing.
