June 2024 Books
I really enjoyed reading For Laci by Sharon Rocha this month. This is the first true crime case that peaked my interest when I was young. It is well written and tells the story of Laci so poignantly. I love how she dedicates the first section of the book to who Laci was as a person and the kind of daughter and friend she was to Sharon and many others.Rocha doesn’t hold back her feelings and pain throughout the book. The reader learns about the pain she endured during the trial and the enduring grief she still faces in the aftermath of the deaths of both her daughter and grandson, Conner. I found her thoughts on the trial of Scott Peterson to be very informative and interesting. Peterson’s case has recently been taken up by the California Innocence Project so in light of this recent news I thought this would be a great book to refresh the details of the case and more importantly learn about the life and legacy of Laci. Laci and Conner’s legacy lives on through the Unborn Victims of Violence Act (also known as Laci and Conner’s Law) which was passed in 2004. This bill ensures that it is a separate crime if you murder or harm an unborn child.
