The Paradox Bookstore

I recently visited The Paradox Bookstore located in Wheeling, West Virginia. What is unique about this bookstore is that it is the oldest used bookstore in the entire state of West Virginia. It has been going strong for the last 40 years. The original owner, Tom Stobart, unfortunately passed away several years ago, but luckily his memory and legacy have been kept alive by another member of his family who runs it. The new owner also does tarot card readings which I think can be fun. Stobart named the bookshop paradox because him and his friend thought the name sounded cool. The word ‘paradox’ typically is synonymous with the word ‘contradiction’. There are all kinds of genres you can find inside including cookbooks, travel books, children’s books, and old magazines. With over 20,000 books to choose from I guarantee you that you’ll find something. I myself found another edition and cover of my favorite book Gift From The Sea. They have unique hours so it’s best to go on weekends where they are open longer. I stopped in on a Saturday and it was nice seeing all the other people in browsing and buying books. I absolutely love this sign! Apparently this sign has been up since the bookshop opened in 1974. It still reads well and looks nice next to the bookshelves that are filled with books that people can take at no cost necessary. It almost gives me the same vibe as a little free library.
