“The Archive” Art Exhibit by Rebecca Louise Law at The Cleveland Public Library

I always love it when libraries feature different exhibits. It’s even more exciting for me when it’s an art exhibit as libraries and art are two of my favorite things. I recently visited The Cleveland Public Library and was absolutely in awe and mesmerized by this installation by a British artist named Rebecca Louise Law. The Archive installation includes over 500,000 botanical objects with 50,000 local waste flowers that have all been sourced in Cleveland, Ohio. For over twenty years Law has been collecting flowers and using them to make beautiful art and these floral arrangements have become a staple of the type of artwork she makes. Each flower strand is hung with copper wiring. I love the sustainability aspect of The Archive as she uses preserved flowers which easily could’ve ended up in the trash, but instead pieced together a beautiful cohesive installation of flowers. All the flowers truly blend in so beautifully together and I’m so happy that The Cleveland Public Library has beautiful exhibits like this one.

Of course I had to do some exploring inside of the library as well. I absolutely love the design and architecture of this library including the beautifully elegant stairwells at the entrance. This library opened in 1869 and has been a great resource for research, information, and access to many great books in the Cleveland area. I always look forward to stepping inside the library whenever I’m downtown.
